Today, AFFA Action is proud to release the 2026 Equality Tracker — a comprehensive, nonpartisan scorecard assessing every South Carolina legislator's record on LGBTQ+ equality.
This is not about party. It's not about rhetoric. It's about what our leaders actually do when it matters.
Grades are based on:
Votes on pro-equality and anti-LGBTQ+ legislation
Bill sponsorships (who authored and championed legislation)
Committee actions (who blocked, who advanced, who stayed silent)
Community engagement (responsiveness + who showed up and who didn't)
The Highlights
The Good:
Several legislators earned A+ grades, champions who didn't just vote right but actively sponsored pro-equality bills and met with our team.
These are the leaders we need to protect, support, and re-elect.
The Bad:
Too many legislators earned F or F- grades, consistently voting against our community and refusing to engage.
These are the lawmakers we need to hold accountable.
The Reality:
Across the state, 73% legislators scored at a C grade or below.
